Character Sketch O’ the Day

Here’s another quick sketch of that character I’m working out.

Boilerplate Painting Process

I rarely take photos of work in progress, but in the case of my painting for Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett’s Boilerplate book, I needed to be able to show where things were headed. I took snaps of the pencils, midtones, and the final piece.

This was done in acrylic, like most of my recent paintings.

If you haven’t picked it up yet, Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel is an incredible piece of work, with some of the best photo manipulation you’ll ever see. Check it out.

Character Sketch

Sketch from last night of a new character I’m working up for my next book! Flapper inspiration for the hair, a little Amelia Earhart.

Old Man Face

Here’s a set of storyboards I just added to my Illustration section. Along with my regular comics work, I do boards, spot illustrations and concept designs for companies like Nike, Adidas, Intel. I look forward to them as a chances to play with other visual styles after a long stretch of comics pages, which demand conformity to the same style, sometimes over hundreds of pages.
